YEAR 6 Spring Term

2025-26

We would like to wish all of our pupils and their familes a very Happy New Year.

Welcome back to the 1st half of the Spring Term. Coming up in the new year, the Year 6 teachers will be holding meetings in school for parents to discuss the PGL residential trip - 22nd - 24th June 2026 - (what happens, kit etc and any questions you have) and SATs - 11th - 14th May 2026 (what happens during SATs week and how we prepare in school for this and anythng you can do to support your children at home).

 

Please remember that Oak Class are swimming on Thursdays of this half term.

 

The 10 spellings we are currently practising (week beginning 26.1.26) are:

  • words ending containing <spec> or <spect> or <spic>

despicable, inspect, special, species, specific,

spectacular, spectrum, speculate, suspect, suspicious

 

In our daily lessons, we break each word into syllables as shown below:

de/spi/ca/ble, in/spect, spec/ial, spe/cies, spe/ci/fic,

spec/ta/cu/lar, spec/trum, spe/cu/late, su/spect, su/spi/cious

 

Swimming: 

Oak will swim this half-term; the first session is:Thursday 8th January 2026.  

 

PE:

Oak class has indoor PE on Mondays and outdoor PE on a Thursday afternoon (if not swimming in the morning).

 

Elder class has indoor PE on Tuesdays and outdoor PE on a Thursday afternoon (if not swimming in the morning).

 

Please remember to come to school wearing their PE kit with long hair tied back and earrings removed/taped. 

Homework:

This will be set every two weeks.  Each child has a homework book in which to complete/stick their work.  Books need to be submitted on Thursdays and new homework will be issued on the Friday.  Year 6 is a good time to start practising completing homework expectations in readiness for Secondary school!

 

Please bring a water bottle to school!
